Hi Corinne! I've seen your work here and there on tumblr and I like you're style! I recently ran across your page and saw that you do commissioned tattoo artwork for people... I have had requests for commissions but am having a hard time deciding how/what to charge people. Knowing that you are an artist who does this, I was just curious how you calculate a price for someone, or if you have any light you could shed on this here conundrum I'm in! I hope you're well and keep up the good work!

Hi Cody! First, let me say that your work is awesome and you definitely should be getting paid to draw designs up for people. With that said, my advise always is “charge what you think you’re worth”. Personally, I think I’m worth at least $25-$35 an hour. So I estimate how many hours a particular size and style of drawing usually takes me, and I quote a flat price for the design (anywhere from $75 to $300+). I also try to be reasonable and take into consideration that my client has to then pay a tattoo artist to actually do the tattoo, so sometimes I’ll try to work within a budget that’s fair for the both of us. But never undervalue your time and expertise. Artists have to spend a lot of time not only drawing up the actual piece, but we also invest effort into brainstorming ideas, exercising our creativity, and employing years of practiced craftsmanship. The clients who commission me are paying for a quality service, not just a finished product.

Hope this helps you out a bit! Best of luck with your art and tattooing!
